Journalist on Romagnoli: “I think the only solution is to sell him, perhaps through an exchange”

It seems as though the only option is for AC Milan is to let Alessio Romagnoli go this summer due to the difficulty of his renewal, a journalist has claimed.

Despite having been one of the club’s better and more consistent servants since arriving back in 2015 from Roma, the last few months have not been the best for Romagnoli with several clouds currently hanging over him.

Firstly, his performances have dipped dramatically as the Italy international has struggled for form in 2021. Secondly, he is battling injuries and is currently on the sidelines with a muscle problem. Finally, his contract expires in June 2022 meaning his future is reaching a natural crossroads anyway, and his agent Mino Raiola is a tough negotiator of course.

According to the well-known journalist Carlo Pellegatti (via MilanLive), Milan are going to be left with little choice when it comes to Romagnoli because of the slim chances of getting him to pen fresh terms.

“It’s the other thorn. He even earns 3-4 million euros and would like 5.5 or 6 million euros. Milan cannot satisfy him. The risk is that he would leave for nothing in a year and therefore a new solution must be found.

“I think the only solution is to sell him, perhaps through an exchange. Sorry because he is a top level defender. Then it will be necessary to evaluate what are the relations between Stefano Pioli and Romagnoli. In the last phase he played little and was not appreciated. He thus lost a national team spot, not being used. Should he be part of Milan there would be problems.”
