Journalist brutally honest about the state of Milan’s attack: “Origi alone is not enough”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan need some work on their group of forwards going into next season because the current squad have far too many uncertainties, a journalist has claimed.

In his column for MilanNews, Franco Ordine writes about how Zlatan Ibrahimovic should call time on his playing days because of the signings his 40-year-old body is giving him, but raises questions about his current supporting cast.

Olivier Giroud ‘is doing his job’ but Marko Lazetic is only 18 and there are ‘no exhilarating judgments’ so far on him. Rafael Leao ‘took a month’s paid vacation without notifying the club’, while Messias ‘laid bare his limited technical baggage’ and is not good enough for a team aiming to win the league.

Brahim Diaz has been ‘missing a goal for too long’ and ‘did not make the promised leap’ meaning the current situation is ‘increasingly urgent’ and that is why ‘Origi alone is not enough’. In Liverpool he is not a starter and he has never scored an avalanche of goals.

A new starting striker is needed and Ordine calls upon Moncada and his associates ‘to find someone like Maignan or Kalulu’ because the economic resources of the next market are not infinite.

  1. We are always finding fault with individual players but we never tackle the real question: our approach to the game. We are lazy. Our players would rather pass the ball to the nearest player than do something useful with it. And many commentators of the game are to blame for this. They find nothing wrong with a slow game but are quick to castigate that player who tried something useful but just missed.

  2. He scored in all seasons together in his carrier 35 goals, 8 seasons in premier league, french league, bundesliga = 35 goals, lmao he must be goal scoring machine and will solve all our problems, meanwhile belotti scored 26 goals in 1 seria a season, scored 103 goals in serie a, but he isnt good enough, clap clap

    1. I guarantee you that Origi’s goals per minutes played is better than Belotti. GUARANTEED.
Also Belotti is 28 (with a lot more wear and tear on his body) while Origi is 26 and will have a lot more left in the tank.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like Belotti as a player; he has been scoring lots of goals for many years and, as I have been saying when talking about Origi — WE NEED GOALS! We obviously aren’t scoring enough. We should be going hard after Scamacca, Origi, Belotti — we need to secure 2 guys IMO (or if only 1, then somehow get the miracle Dybala signing because he can create many goals).

So i’m not hating on Belotti — it just frustrates me that people don’t understand how good Origi is.

      1. @DB , you cant guarantee to me something that is easy to check, you can check on websites with detailed football stats,i just checked for both players considered their whole carrier,so ,origi scores goal every 220′ ,belotti scores goal every 186′ ,so its not important what u guarantee to me my bro, only facts are important, i checked this on transfermarkt so you can check it if you dont believe,so imagine now how much more minutes belotti played than origi and he still has better goals per minute stats, and he played in serie a the whole time, not in joke leagues like bundesleague(origigi 6 goals 33 matches) where even werghorst score 25 goals per season,or french leaague(origi 8 goals 35 matches).i am not against origi,i am just sad that they gonna bring another player that is not killer in front of goal, origi is more like a winger to me (he even played 70 matches in carrier as a winger, you can check that too)and he has that lazy atitude like leao, we need killer and agressive striker who will fight for us,i would be glad if they bring both of them but it looks that they just picked origi over belotti and that makes me sad

  3. Origi may not be enough, but he would be a good start. It’s annoying that people keep talking about his low goal totals (and this guy says he’s never scored an “avalanche” of goals); but if you look at his goals per minutes played, it’s fantastic. He is on a great team which is nice to win trophies; but he’s sick of sitting on the bench behind Salah/Mane/Firmino/Jota. This year, he has zero starts in PL and in only 5 substitution appearances, he has 2 goals on only 6 shots. In League Cup, he has 2 starts with 2 goals and an assist. in FA Cup, he has 1 start and 1 assist. In recent PL seasons, he had 7 starts with 4 goals on only 10 shots with an assist (1029) and in 2018 he had 4 starts with 3 goals (on only 9 shots) and an assist.
WHEN HE PLAYS HE IS VERY VERY PRODUCTIVE.
OBVIOUSLY OUR TEAM NEEDS GOALS. We can get this extremely talented player cheaply because he’s desperate to leave and find a place where he can actually get minutes on the pitch.
Please Milan management and please fellow rossoneri fans, realize this.

  4. Of course he’s not. He’s totally average and will not increase our quality. We won’t drop much as he’s decent but we won’t get better with him. If we want to be cheap and save money we need Belotti, he’s better and this is his dream, he will bleed for Milan.

If we want to spend we need Scamacca or Nunez.

In my opinion we should sign Belotti regardless and then pick up one of Scamacca or Nunez. Striker position would be set for years.

At the very least if we want to stay very cost effective we should get Belotti and Origi.

    1. And honestly with our current financial situation and how much change we need in attack this is a great year to get 2 quality free transfers and be set with both Belotti and Origi. Ibra unfortunately can’t stay healthy. Giroud is only getting older, and we can’t count on Lazetic or Colombo just yet.

  5. When I said he’s “not enough” I absolutely did NOT mean that he’s not good enough or doesn’t have good enough quality. I meant, Milan need TWO more strikers. So, ONE is not enough. But I completely disagree with you that he’s “totally average and will not increase our quality”. He is very high quality and would increase our goal scoring quite a lot.

I do agree with everything else you said about Belotti, Scamacca and Nunez though.

    1. Maybe I am underestimating him, and I’d love to be wrong. But you can’t say he’s high quality and will help a lot until he is here. Currently he plays for Liverpool, an amazing team with world class talents across the field. It’s going to be a lot different getting service from Diaz, Leao, and Saelemaekers rather than Mane, Salah, etc… so we’ll see if he is good here or not. I personally think he is going to be no better than Giroud this year who has been decent so I hold with my statement that he will not increase our quality. However if we significantly upgrade our AM and RW then he will do better. If we don’t, he won’t bring us anything more then we have now.

  6. If Milan continues to play 4231, they need all new starters at the 4 attacking positions.
Rafael Leao is not a starter. At 23 he can’t play more than 35-40 minutes a game , he is selfish and is awful at finishing. Most fans concentrate on saelemakers and messias ,give Leao a pass because he makes couple dribbles a game that end up with loss of the ball.
Milan is interested in several Left wingers, you ll see that he will be benched after couple months next season. He would’ve been benched this year but Rebic is constantly injured.
He is not the player you wanna build a team around. If big offer comes sell and reinvent the money in players that wanna compete and win
