AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United but has been tipped to sign a new deal.
With around 70 days until Donnarumma’s contract expires thus making him free to sign a contract with any club he chooses, the saga is beginning to dominate the media headlines as Milan are running the serious risk of losing a star player on a free transfer.
However, ‘European transfer expert’ Chris Parrott has told talkSPORT of his belief that in the end Donnarumma will in fact renew his contract with the Rossoneri and snub the chance to make a bigger pay packet in England.
Chelsea signed Edouard Mendy from Rennes for £20million last summer and despite his impressive debut season, the report mentions that the Blues want Kepa Arrizabalaga out this summer and Mendy would be the back-up to a new number one.
Manchester United meanwhile are also keen on Donnarumma as they could sell David de Gea this summer. They view Dean Henderson as their long-term man, but again it seems as though more quality and depth in the squad is the thinking.
“This is a guy who’s only 22 and when he burst onto the scene we thought: ‘this is Buffon again isn’t it?’” Parrott told talkSPORT.
“He’s going to be Milan’s goalkeeper and a lot of people say that Mino Raiola’s clients do not always end up at the right club at the right time. For me, for all of the years he has been at Milan this is the one year where you would not want to leave.
“They are threatening to create something and will be back in the Champions League next season. This isn’t the time to join Juventus. They need a major rebuild and it just seems again that Raiola isn’t getting his players to the right clubs but the clubs where they get the most money. Ibrahimovic is one of his most high profile players and he’s never won the Champions League.”
