Journalist urges Milan squad to ‘give more’ and banish rumours of ‘incidents in the dressing room’

By Oliver Fisher -

A journalist has implored the AC Milan squad to give more in order to emerge from the current crisis and also shake off the rumours of a dressing room that is far from harmonious.

Milan’s start to 2023 could hardly have gone worse as they are now six games without a win since opening the new year with a victory against Salernitana. Points were dropped against Roma from 2-0 up, the Coppa Italia dream vanished at the hands of Torino and an awful first half against Lecce left a mountain to climb before eventually a 2-2 draw was salvaged.

The lowest point was Sunday though and a simply disastrous 90 minutes for Milan, as they followed up defeats against Lazio and Inter – in which they let in seven goals without scoring – by conceding five goals against a relegation battling Sassuolo side.

Antonio Vitiello wrote in his weekly column for MilanNews about the action that the players must take to help themselves, referencing speculation of an incident in the dressing room.

“The players will also have to give more and this is equally evident. The team must compact both on the pitch and internally, chase away any rumours about some incidents in the dressing room and think only of the pitch,” he said.

“Last year Pioli’s men gave their all as a group and collectively, to get out of the crisis you need the same attitude otherwise fourth place could really get out of hand. And if Milan fail to reach the top four in the standings, it would be enormous damage both in terms of image and economically.”
