Kalulu insists he is not worried about Milan’s top four battle as he discusses his best position

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Pierre Kalulu has discussed his best role and the team’s target for the season during an interview with SportMediaset.

After the initial skepticism towards him, Kalulu continues to show that he can play both right-back and centre-back to a more than adequate standard in Italy, and the large margins for improvement are evident.

Milan paid just €500k to sign him from Lyon and once again the Rossoneri scouting department has proven to be effective, because just 16 appearances into his Milan career he already appears to be worth much more than what was paid months ago.

The 20-year-old has proven to be up to the task and when called upon he has not yet disappointed despite his lack of experience, and Kalulu even earned the accolade of man of the match during a Coppa Italia penalty shootout win over Torino.

Kalulu spoke to SportMediaset’s about his start to life at Milan, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

On his first Milan goal, against Genoa: “I remember well, it was a strong emotion, beautiful, but fast enough because we were losing. I was happy.”

On his best role on the pitch: “Centre-back or full-back? I know I always try to do my best in both roles. Then where I express myself best doesn’t really matter to me because I don’t make the decisions. The coach has to decide where to let me play, where I prefer to play is not important. ”

On the home performance of Milan: “It is true that it is important to return to winning at San Siro in order to hope to achieve our goal, that is to return to play the Champions League next year.”

On the competition for the Champions League: “Am I worried? No, it’s normal, it’s a tough championship with strong teams like us. The competition from the other teams behind us gives us even more desire to play the remaining matches.”
