Kalulu reflects after facing parent club Milan: “Football is made of decisions”

Pierre Kalulu had the rather strange experience of playing against his parent club for a rival team at San Siro last night, helping Juventus keep a clean sheet against AC Milan.

Kalulu found himself bumped down the pecking order at Milan after the arrival of Strahinja Pavlovic and the decision was made to allow him to join Juventus on a loan deal.

An option to buy was inserted into the deal but it was still an operation that was met with criticism from fans, who did not understand why the management would help a rival.

The defender has since opened up about making the switch, confirming that a conversation with Thiago Motta is what convinced him, but last night will still have been strange against his old team-mates.

At the end of the game DAZN interviewed the Frenchman and he reflected on his return to San Siro, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“We know it’s an important point for the standings and a quality opponent. We could have done more to win but we were away from home and we’re moving forward,” he said.

“It’s not a match like the others because there’s more emotion but then I tried to be a professional on the pitch. Of course in front of this crowd it’s always special.”

Did you want to prove something?

“No… (laughs). Football is made of decisions and when you come back you want to do the best you can, if we had won I would have been the happiest.”

You didn’t have too much defensive work to do…

“We know that it is thanks to the whole team, we didn’t have many duels to do in the match also thanks to Thuram, the forwards and the mezzali.”
