Kalulu explains why Serie A is underestimated: “It is quite the opposite”

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan defender Pierre Kalulu has said that Serie A is the opposite of what many believe it to be in France where he is from.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Kalulu discussed the image that the Italian top flight has in France.

He was signed by the Rossoneri from Lyon and he revealed that in France, many feel that the Italian league is still full of very defensive-minded teams using the old Catenaccio style of play.

“Serie A is underestimated. In France it is still believed that people play with Catenaccio. Instead it is quite the opposite: all the teams build from the back, apply pressure across the pitch, play hard physically,” Kalulu said when asked about choosing Serie A over the Premier League.

he then added that the technical level of the division is very high and there are lots of games against teams who are very close to you in terms of points throughout the season, referring to the clashes between the seven sisters.

“There is a high technical and tactical level and ruthless competition, with six, seven high level matches to be played against rivals,” he said.

Milan have managed to beat Inter in one of these clashes this season but they were only able to draw 1-1 with Atalanta and were beaten 2-1 by Napoli.
