GdS: Kalulu the seventh Milan player to renew in 2022 – ‘We are like a family’

By Oliver Fisher -

Yesterday, Pierre Kalulu became the latest AC Milan player to commit his long-term future to the club in what is another important sign for the management.

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) comments on the renewal of Kalulu who signed a new deal running until 2027. Another piece of the Milan Scudetto-winning side has therefore pledged their long-term future, so the management have cemented another brick in the wall.

The French defender, who arrived as a semi-unknown in the summer of 2020 from the Lyon academy, has become one of the great emergences of the Rossoneri’s defence. Precisely for this reason, the management have given him a significant increase in salary from the previous €800k net per season to €2m.

Kalulu himself revealed his delight at feeling the trust of Paolo Maldini and the club as a whole: “I am very happy with the renewal. I feel a lot of affection from the fans, I see a great love for me and this leaves me calm and positive. At Milan I am very happy, we are like a family.

“After winning the Scudetto you are more and more proud of this shirt. I always want to do more, I am a person who has the humility to understand when he does things well and when he does them less well. I am a perfectionist and I always think about giving my best on the pitch.”

Kalulu is the seventh renewal that Milan have secured in 2022 (the eighth if we count that of Stefano Pioli) as Theo Hernandez, Matteo Gabbia, Fikayo Tomori, Tommaso Pobega, Sandro Tonali and Rade Krunic all penned new deal.

Now, the attention turns to Olivier Giroud – whose deal is expiring in June 2023 – and obviously the more difficult issues of Ismael Bennacer and Rafael Leao.
