AC Milan are relying on getting the best version of Franck Kessie back starting from the derby against Inter next weekend, but in the meantime his future is causing some concern.
According to MilanNews, Kessie will return to Italy and Milan today – presumably in the evening – after the Ivory Coast were eliminated from the African Cup of Nations on penalties by Egypt. He came off injured during that game, but the knock to his rib was quickly disposed of and the Ivorian midfielder will have no problems starting the crucial derby against Inter.
His role in the double pivot is fundamental, because he helps Tonali in the non-possession phase and has the ability – unlike all the other midfielders in the squad – to give balance and order to the team even in the most chaotic phases of the match.
He was even used as an attacking midfielder during the last game of 2021 against Empoli and he scored twice, so a repeat of that experiment cannot be excluded. However, the negative feelings regarding his renewal issue are confirmed as Kessie, in all probability, will not accept the renewal proposed by Milan.
Plenty of clubs are keen on him such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Tottenham plus even rivals Inter and Juventus. His future from June onwards may not be Rossonero, but until then he remains valuable.
