Tuttosport: Kessie to take up a Boateng-esque role against Inter in the derby

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has had two weeks to think about the team he will put out to try and beat Inter and wrestle back some ground in the title race.e

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Pioli has decided to change the role of Franck Kessie who will not play in the double pivot but will be deployed as attacking midfielder in place of Brahim Diaz, who will start then the match from the bench.

It is not the first time that the Ivorian has played in that role as he had already occupied it in the away win over Empoli before Christmas, when he scored a brace. The idea is to limit the involvement of Inter’s midfield quarterback Marcelo Brozovic, and at the same time be proactive in the offensive phase by establishing a physical presence and being proactive with movement.

The hope is that Kessie will be able to create alongside Olivier Giroud. In Empoli, Kessie’s first goal came thanks to a lay off from the French centre-forward, and the paper remarks that Kessie will basically have to do the same job that Kevin Prince Boateng did in the days of Massimiliano Allegri.
