GdS: Pioli’s reliance and the crowd reaction – Kessie conundrum thrust into the spotlight

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has been left in a tricky situation regarding what to do with Franck Kessie, a report has claimed.

La Gazzetta dello Sport takes a look at the conundrum surrounding Kessie by starting with the fact that the Milan fans have already expressed themselves in a certain way by en masse declaring that Renato Sanches is welcome as his replacement, moving on from the Ivorian before he has even gone.

Nonetheless, with three months to play and two target to pursue – namely the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia – Pioli cannot afford to move on from Kessie yet and to lose such a player prematurely, before the expiration of his contract.

Instead, the Milan boss needs everyone and Kessie’s team-mates know that he can give a big boost in the fight to win one or possibly two trophies this season. Ismael Bennacer will miss the Udinese game due to suspension and Sandro Tonali will miss the first leg of the Coppa Italia derby against Inter, so Pioli will Kessie on both occasions without hesitation.

Kessie is in the limelight just when Milan’s season is about to experience a decisive moment, but there remains a question about how the fans with welcome him after a deluge of boos at the reading of the line-ups and his entry into the field in the second half against Sampdoria.

This culminated in a banner displayed in the Curva Sud reading: “Those who love Milan prove it with facts, cordial greetings to the dissatisfied.” The feeling is that even on Friday there will be some vocal unhappiness expressed towards Kessie, but maybe to a lesser extent because even the fans realise that having a player in a Milan shirt crumble at a decisive moment is counter-productive.

  1. Cried are being pathetic here – there’s a title to aim for, against all odds, supporting the players fighting for it should be more important
