Video: Kessie bids emotional farewell to Milan – “Proud to have worn this glorious shirt”

By Oliver Fisher -

Franck Kessie has bid farewell to AC Milan after five years at the club as he gets ready for a new challenge with Barcelona.

Kessie has been with the Rossoneri for half a decade and has seen plenty of lows, but it feels fitting that he will sign off with such a high as he scored the final goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Sassuolo that effectively put the Scudetto race to bed.

He confirmed his departure via a video on his Instagram profile, with the follow caption…

“After 5 years I couldn’t hope to end this great experience in a better way! A unique emotion: we are Italian champions!
Proud to have worn this glorious shirt and to have shared this journey with some fantastic team-mates!

“Thanks for everything! Thanks to everyone! Your ‘President’.”

  1. Will not miss him but he will be remembered positively unlike Donnarumma or Calhanoghlu.

He did what he could for us. Didn’t expect anything more from him. This was his limit. thanks for the Scudetto.
Hope you get what you seek at Barca.

    1. I wouldn’t say we won’t miss him lol. He was excellent all season a d will be difficult to replace. Hopefully whoever M&M chose to replace him(Sanches?) will surpass his contributions. TY Kessie. Gave his heat and soul. Best of luck and you will always be a red devil and should be welcomed in Milano anytime.

      1. Tactically they’re 2 different players. Kessie could cover whoever went up. Sanches is like a more physical version of Bennacer.

    2. I get the Calhanoglu case, but In what way is the Kessie situation different than Donnarumma?
Both left Milan for more money with Milan getting nothing in compensation back.
Why is one remembered positively and the other negatively? For me they both should be remembered in positive light. True professionals till the end, especially Giggio who even after he left every time he speaks of Milan its always glowingly and reiterates that he is and always will be a Milan fan.
The team wasnt good enough to win a title last year so Giggio can leave as a Champion.
Good luck to Kessie at Barca except if & when he plays vs Milan.
Thanks to Giggio who was the only shining light during some of the darkest times for the club

      1. gigio was an academy product. We made him. He should’ve atleast informed Maldini Massara about his intention not to renew. Thankfully we got Maignan. avoiding Maldini till last day is not done imo. you expect atleast academy players to be warm towards the club

        1. Milan didn’t made Donnarumma. He was high sought after talent who Milan signed at 14 after offering more money than juve & inter. He started at 16 thanks to Mihajlovic courage to play a kid after Diego Lopez injury.
He didnt inform Maldini till the last moment because him staying or leaving was based on Milan making UCL, which didnt happen untill the last game of the season.
It was Maldini who told him its over after he already signed Maignan because they couldnt wait anymore or they would lose Maignan to Roma.

  2. Kessie was fantastic last year and good this year. He will be missed and I hope we can find a player who can replace what he brought to the squad. Good luck Frank the Tank.

  3. He leaves a legend IMO – what a player and even if he’s not been the standout star this season he’s carried the team forward each year he’s been in Milan, improved himself and the team and been a huge part in maturing the team and winning this year’s title.

It’s sad to see him go but he’s earned the right to choose his own future – hope we don’t get drawn against Barcelona in next year’s Champions’ League! (although I think there’s a high probability)

    1. Nope, not a legend, me personally dont brandish legend status easily.
He did excellent though, was our best player till the young boys decided to take the spotlight.
Good luck Franck, you will be missed, and thank you for the memories.

  4. Thanks to Kessie. Even the words at Olympia was bitter. But he never complained and gave his best and he loved Milan. I understand if he search a new experience.
He did better than Donnarumma and Calhanoglu. I hopefully hope that Leao will renew his Contract

  5. Was a shadow of himself in comparison to last season.
We should all remember what he said during the olympics while playing for the national team.100% misleading. That is the only problem I have with his departure!

  6. Legend lol Any player leaving of value on a free is joke. These guys are on Big wages and they repay the Club in this way is ridiculous!
