CF: The impact that Kessie’s decision not to renew will have on Milan’s accounts

By Oliver Fisher -

Franck Kessie will not renew his contract with Milan and according to multiple sources he has signed a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona.

Milan will lose another player on a free after Gianluigi Donnarumma (who went to PSG), Hakan Calhanoglu and potentially captain Alessio Romagnoli too whose deal expires at the end of the season.

Calcio e Finanza reports that Kessie cost Milan €10.47m in 2021-22 when considering the gross salary that he earns and the balance of the amortisation (the spread of his transfer fee over the years of his contract).

The Rossoneri club have on their budget that he cost €2.2m net in terms of net salary (€4.07m gross) and €6.4m in amortisation, so that overall figure will no longer weigh on next season’s budget.

If Kessie had renewed his contract with Milan, his transfer fee would have been fully amortised and only the salary would have been present on the accounts, but it would have been over twice as much as per the rumours suggesting he will get a big pay rise at Barca.

  1. I’m happy psg flopped with all the expensive signing of free transfers, it will show to all rich cash clubs that collecting all the “best” high paid players in the world would not guarantee becoming the great team in the world. They should reflect on the likes of Dortmund, Ajax, Muenchen, Madrid, Barcelona, and now Milan
