Kessie reveals what Ibra said after Inter loss and apologises to fans: “We have to raise the level”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie has insisted that he and his team-mates must pick their heads up and recover quickly after the 3-0 derby defeat to Inter.

The Rossoneri were well beaten by their city rivals as they moved four points clear at the top of the Serie A table thanks to a brace from Lautaro Martinez and another derby goal from Romelu Lukaku.

Lautaro Martinez gave the Nerazzurri the lead just a few minutes in with an easy header and then doubled the advantage before the hour mark before Lukaku essentially killed the game off with his run and finish.

Kessie was interviewed by Sky Italia after the game at San Siro, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

At the moment: “We have to think about the other games right away, we have to try to work even harder to get back to the way they started the season.

“We have to work, the coach and staff will review the game and find out what went wrong to prepare us for the next match.”

Thousands of fans gathered outside the Curva Sud to show their support for the team before the game and to cheer the team bus as it arrived, but they would go home disappointed.

“I’m sorry for them, they did everything to charge us, it didn’t go well. We have to raise the level to get back to those of 2020.”

Samir Handanovic was in inspired form for the Nerazzurri and made several key saves to deny Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sandro Tonali and later Hakan Calhanoglu, as the Swede’s streak of scoring in derbies was ended.

On Ibrahimovic, Kessie added: “He told us that football is like this. When you lose it hurts, but we have to raise our heads to go stronger, there are still many games to go.”
