Kjaer reflects on ‘strange’ preparations and declares: “We want to improve and keep winning”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer has claimed that preparation for the 2020-21 season has felt ‘strange’ but that the preseason games were important.

The Rossoneri had already faced Novara, Monza and Vicenza in this preseason, beating them 4-2, 4-1 and 5-1 respectively, and they concluded preparations against Brescia at Milanello on Saturday.

It took Milan until the 41st minute to break the deadlock despite a probing and enterprising first half performance, with Franck Kessie in the end heading home from a corner at the near post.

Castillejo assisted Lorenzo Colombo for the second goal before the Spaniard got on the scoresheet himself, with Stefano Pioli’s side running out 3-1 winner.

Back in the starting line after his commitments with the national team, Kjaer was interviewed by Milan TV after the game.

“I am happy to be back available after the national team. It’s a strange preparation, with tight deadlines, but we knew this. The important thing is to play well, these games also count for a lot,” he said (via MilanLive).

On the feeling with Matteo Gabbia in defence: “There is harmony, I’m happy to have played next to Gabbia again. We want to improve and keep winning. In the final of last season we won many games, we must try to do the same in the next ones too.”
