Krunic recalls free-kick against Verona and jokes he will not take another

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Rade Krunic has joked that he is not interested in taking another free-kick after he scored against Hellas Verona the season before last.

Krunic has certainly become one of Stefano Pioli’s most trusted performers as he has played a number of different roles since his arrival from Empoli back in the summer of 2019, and his best goal for the club is certainly the free-kick he put in the top corner against Verona.

It was a goal that ended up inspiring the Rossoneri to an unlikely victory given the sheer amount of players that were out, with Samu Castillejo playing as a striker in that game. The 2-0 win was sealed by a Diogo Dalot counter-attack late on.

Ahead of tomorrow night’s game against Empoli, DAZN spoke with Krunic about the fact that he is able to kick free-kicks, as seen from his goal at the Stadio MarcAntonio Bentegodi in 2020-21.

“In that game there were a lot of players missing and they gave me this opportunity. I shot that time and one more time and that’s it,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I have 50% conversion rate – a good percentage and I don’t want to ruin it. I have many team-mates who know how to shoot and they stay even after training to try free-kicks, they have the talent to do this.”
