Krunic: “We had a great game, but we had to close it out”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Rade Krunic has thanks Stefano Pioli for showing faith in him after Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Lecce.

Krunic came off the bench for just his second appearance in the Rossoneri shirt as Milan twice let a lead slip to drop two points at home.

Hakan Calhanoglu and Krzysztof Piatek were on the scoresheet in Pioli’s first game in charge, the latter netting what looked to be the winner with 10 minutes left.

However Milan were twice pegged back, firstly following a Khouma Babacar penalty converted at the second attempt and then through Marco Calderoni’s 92nd minute screamer.

Krunic spoke to Milan TV after the draw and – like head coach Pioli – rued the missed chances which ended up costing the team.

“We had a great game, especially in the first half, but we had to close it first,” he said, as per MilanNews.it.

“We lowered ourselves a bit and they scored two goals. We had a good game, the fans had a great time too. We missed a bit of luck to bring home the three points.

On Pioli: “I talked to him the first day. He is an honest person, he told me what he expects from me. Tonight he showed he trusted me and I thank him for that.

“The coach asks us to stay high, then when we lowered we suffered a little more. We deserved to win.

“We will come out stronger from this match. Against Roma it will not be easy, but we must think about going ahead with our heads held high and continuing to fight in every training session and every game.”
