AC Milan’s game against Bologna, initially scheduled for Saturday evening, was postponed due to weather warnings. However, as the sun came out on gameday, it became clear that the decision was solely political.
Milan were left feeling very frustrated with Bologna and Lega Serie A after attempting to play the game behind closed doors, or even at a neutral venue. All to no avail, as Rossoblu club officials even backed the decision of their mayor Matteo Lepore, who clearly did it for political reasons.

Today’s edition of La Verita, as cited by MilanNews, discussed the matter at great length. “Matteo Lepore’s imperious gesture has shown the fragility of a system that is based on compromises and weaknesses, and is subject to the ancient law of the cattle fair: whoever shouts the loudest takes home the cow,” writes the journalist Giorgio Gandola.
All of the conditions were in place to play the game: the stadium, Renato Dall’Ara, was completely accessible especially since the weather ended up being 18 degrees and sunny. Indeed, there was no rain in Bologna, which was the whole supposed reason behind the postponement.
At most, it should have been a decision for the referee Maurizio Mariani to make on the pitch, whether it was playable or not. It certainly shouldn’t have been a decision for people who only have political motivations to make.
Without a doubt, as La Verita continues, Lepore’s decision was entirely political: the aim was to force the hand of the Meloni government, which until then had been reluctant to grant another ‘state of natural disaster’.
Blame was also placed on climate change, which the Bologna city council “tends to place all the blame for its own inadequacy”. If the decision hadn’t been political, then Lepore also would have stopped the other events of the weekend in the city, which took place regularly, such as the ‘Bologna boxing night’ and the ‘L’Auto moto show’.
Serie A certainly doesn’t come out of this well either, having allowed itself to be exploited by the mayor while failing to assert its independence. While it’s true that you cannot go against an ordinance not to use a stadium, they could have at least clung to the rules and awarded Milan the 3-0 win by default, especially since playing behind closed doors or at a neutral venue was also rejected by Bologna.
Bologna are also losers in this, citing the inability to donate ticket proceeds from the game to flood victims as one of the reasons. Couldn’t half of the proceeds from the Champions League match against Monaco have been donated? Or from the league matches against Lecce and Venezia? In this way, the charity fundraiser was moved to the recovery date, potentially at the end of February.
Of course, Milan also lost, having to play against Napoli without Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders due to suspension. Furthermore, president Paolo Scaroni was unable to assert the club’s rights and this is something that never would have happened with Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani.

You’re a special kind of dumb. Belescuni was a prime minister and knows people in the government. Obviously Milan tried as it says in the article Bologna refused. The league hold the decision there’s not much they could do aside from complaining and making a buzz. Everyone knows in Italy knowing the right people goes a long way something that current owner isn’t used to.

It’s actually “Climate catastrophe” these days as it’s a proven fact and worse than just “climate change”. But sure, go with the “Earth is flat” -bandwagon if you want. 🙂
Oh yes, proven fact. We’re all going to die. The end is nigh. Just surrender more freedoms and accept less. Also transfer the wealth to those driving the boat. The only proven facts are 1) climate science is not a science, but a pseudoscience (don’t worry, cosmology is basically a pseudoscience too), 2) climate “scientists” don’t know much about how climate works and 3) one doesn’t need to show one knows much to open the doors to the kingdom when one has the “virtuous” cycle of money supporting results and results supporting policy and policymakers in turn providing the money. Of course you also need a compliant media that reports what doesn’t exist and what no “scientist” would touch. Just remember how covid came through natural zoontoic transmission. until it didn’t. and just like nobody lost anything for telling that lie those who have been enriched and empowered by this “climate catastrophe” are expecting to owe nothing for their impoverishment and immiseration of the populace.
Note, that’s not to say the earth hasn’t been warming over the past few decades. Just that we don’t really know the causes, the models that have been used to claim catastrophe have proven themselves wrong remarkably consistently, there’s no evidence that extreme weather events have been getting worse, there’s no reason to assume that a warmer temperature would be worse than a cooler one, and there’s every reason to believe that even if a warmer one is worse the policies being put into place will cause far more damage to people than the climate change would. Besides, if you force all industrial production from lower CO2 producers to higher CO2 producers in order to move those lower CO2 regions to even lower or no CO2 all you have achieved is a growth in global CO2 output and the decline of the well-being of the majority of the population of the lower CO2 countries (as well as creating a security risk of having an anemic industrial base).

Total scandal. Bologna has lost my respect. We better win next game or I’ll be furious. This is not ok. They should make it so the suspended players can’t play next time against Bologna instead to make this fair.
They should also award Milan the 3 points. That’s what usually happens when a game is forfeited for unrelated sporting reasons.
There were other events that took place in Bologna and only Milan game was cancelled. This was a political stunt by the major who has no jurisdiction over the Serie A.
This shouldn’t have be allowed to happen with Milan being award the 3 points as a penalty for forfeiting the game.

I think it is fair to question how well the management has argued the clubs position on this.

We should have been awarded 0:3 win if Bologna were not prepared to accept playing at an alternative venue or empty stadium.
We should indeed be deemed winners for the mere fact that it was political infringement of the FA. To my knowledge previously FA’s has been banned if their governments has politized the said FA’s. This might be more locally speaking and on a smaller scale but the fact that the mayor seems to have initially acted on his own should make the decision fairly easy and deem Bologna as 0-3 losers.
In the end and I know it most likely wont happen but I quite frankly hope that our fans will ransack their stadium if this match is ever played.

No rain this “weekend” so the game should have been played our Milan should have been awarded the 3 points. The major has no power to cancel a Serie A game. None !
