Le10Sport: Milan the team best placed to sign Chelsea forward this summer

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are the team in pole position to land Olivier Giroud who may leave Chelsea on a free transfer this summer, a report claims.

Le10Sport confirms that Giroud could end his nine-year spell in London at the end of his contract on June 30 as he wants more playing time, with the question now focused on where he could end up. Ligue 1 side RC Lens asked for information despite their limited resources while Fenerbahçe are also active, but it is Milan who are leading the race.

Milan have been thinking about a move for the 34-year-old for several months and there is contact between the two parties which has been positive. Until now, Giroud has been waiting to know if the Rossoneri will play in the Champions League next season and now top four has been secured, he is very interested in the move. Milan are now ‘strongly and correctly positioned’ to sign the ex-Arsenal man, the report adds.

  1. I think Milan needs a better striker than Giroud for UCL. If Milan cannot buy Vlahovic, Bellotti also is not bad choice.

  2. He’s absolutely not like Mandzukic. Giroud would be a good back-up for Zlatan and the kind of striker we need up-front.

I also prefer someone like Vlahovic but that won’t be easy. Not to mention between paying for Tomori, Tonali and Maignan, we don’t have that much to spend anyway. And we need players for Hakan’s position plus possibly right-wing and left-back, too.

  3. If Milan sign Giroud, to me that means they chose Vlahovic over Belotti as the striker for the future. No one in their right mind will pay Commisso 60 million for a player whose contract expires in 2023 and has shown no sign of renewal. If Milan get Giroud now, they can come to an agreement directly with Vlahovic and get a pretty decent back up for Zlatan, someone who can get the job done for 1-2 seasons, and then sign Vlahovic at the end of next season for much lower than Commisso is asking right now.
