CM: Leao called upon to perform on the biggest stage as speculation over future persists

By Oliver Fisher -

After getting a red card against Sampdoria that rules him out of the game against Napoli, the pressure is on Rafael Leao to make the Dinamo Zagreb game a good one.

Calciomercato.com recall how Leao hasn’t scored in the Champions League since Milan’s 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid back on 28 September 2021 at San Siro, a game that went down in history for the controversial refereeing of Cakir.

Since then, Leao has played and not scored in the 1-0 defeat and 1-1 draw with Porto, did not start in the 1-0 win at Atletico Madrid and came off injured in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool that eliminated the Rossoneri.

Leao did not score in the 1-1 draw against Red Bull Salzburg last week either and now the challenge is for the former Lille man to become a great protagonist in Europe, especially with the speculation surrounding his future.

Milan are obviously thinking about the renewal of the contract (expiring on 30 June 2024) but there are rumours of interest from Chelsea and Manchester City, so Leao performing on the biggest stage would do him no harm.
