AC Milan got the job done against Dinamo Zagreb last night, and Rafael Leao was a big part of the victory as was perhaps to be expected.
As the Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports this morning, it is now impossible not to consider Leao as an absolute top player in his role, and he showed just how much he can impact even the most delicate of matches by winning a penalty and providing a perfect assist for Alexis Saelemaekers.
He has not yet scored a goal in the Champions League this season, but he has contributed to three of the four goals scored by Milan. It was important he put everything in against Dinamo Zagreb however, given he is suspended for the game against Napoli on Sunday.
It is impossible not to think of Leao’s future and the contract that ties him to the club until June 2024. While the Portuguese does not seem to feel the pressure of the situation, Paolo Maldini had some significant words to say before the game.
“Renewal? It is a question that we have already faced many months ago. Rafa knows that, to become even stronger, the solution is stay with us. We are a young and growing team. But we intend to do great things and grow with him,” he said.
The club’s intention is very clear: to keep the best player Milan has at the moment and to travel with him to the fore of European football.
