Rafael Leao has continued his Serie A MVP form from last season as he continues to be decisive for AC Milan and draw admiring glances from elsewhere.
So far this season Leao has played 8 games, amassing 3 goals and 6 assists and proving himself to be one of the leaders of the Rossoneri despite his young age and the margins for him to become even better, if he is not already one of the best in Europe in his position.
MilanNews recall how director Paolo Maldini spoke to Mediaset before last night’s win over Dinamo Zagreb – in which Leao won a penalty and assisted Saelemaekers – about the renewal of the Portuguese.
“Rafa knows that to become stronger than now the solution is to stay with us. We are a young and growing team. He still has to learn many things, if he then reaches a higher level than Milan I think it is also normal to take flight. But we have the intention to do great things and to grow with him,” he said.
Of course the will of all parties must be there for him to extend and his agent Jorge Mendes will have no problems getting offers from abroad, but the report mentions how Leao would be better off listening to Maldini and renewing.
From an economic point of view, there could be teams ready to offer a slightly higher figure than the Rossoneri and and big commissions to his agent, but from a sporting point of view Pioli and Milan have made him an absolute star and he is well loved by the fans.
He would grow with ambition alongside the club who want to fight for the biggest trophies, but he could also develop without the excessive pressure that comes with a big money move to the Premier League. He could become a champion again, and do so with the club who have bet so much on him.
