Leao frustrated after Roma draw: “I am disappointed because we did everything to win the game”

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has admitted he is ‘disappointed’ that his side did not claim all three points against Roma at San Siro.

Milan threw away a lead three times against Roma on Monday night, eventually drawing 3-3 in a thrilling game. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored inside the opening two minutes with an instinctive finish from Leao’s assist, but Edin Dzeko responded.

Alexis Saelemaekers thundered home to make it 2-1 within minutes of the restart after excellent work by Leao again, yet a controversial penalty saw Roma equalise again through Jordan Veretout.

The referee then gave another spot kick up the other end which Ibrahimovic tucked away, however again Milan let the lead slip as Marash Kumbulla bundled home a third leveller.

Leao was interviewed by Sky at the end of the game, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“It is a pity we didn’t win. We created many goal chances, now we continue to work,” he said.

“We want to win every game, we want to remain on top of the table but I am disappointed because we did everything to win the game. We are focused, we want to follow our path and remain on top of the table.

“Ibra is an example for all of us. I am happy with how the team is playing and I am happy he scored. I always try to help the team but today I am disappointed because we didn’t win.”
