GdS: Leao has ‘increasingly clear and significant requests’ to renew after rejecting Chelsea

By Oliver Fisher -

Rafael Leao and his entourage have laid out the demands for his contract renewal after rejecting the advances of Chelsea, it is claimed.

Carlo Laudisa – a journalist for La Gazzetta dello Sport – spoke on Carlo Pellegatti’s YouTube channel (via MilanNews) and was asked for updates regarding the situation of Leao’s renewal, which is one of the big issues that Gerry Cardinale will have to tackle after buying the club.

Laudisa reports that Leao has shown with facts that he is attached to Milan after refusing the advances of Chelsea in the summer mercato but he has ‘increasingly clear and significant requests’.

The Portuguese has a dispute with Sporting Lisbon worth €19m and the sum should be paid half and half between Leao and Lille. Milan came forward some time ago to offer a solution whereby the club pays half of the part due by Leao (therefore a quarter of the fine, with is €4.75m).

Then the other part of the fine would be paid by Milan but then discounted in the renewal over the next five years. However, in recent weeks Leao and his entourage have been clear that they want the fine money to be paid in full by Milan.

  1. It’s like I skimmed through the whole article and didn’t fully grasp what I just read. They want Milan to pay the fine in full? Is that it?
    It’s the audacity for me!

    1. Milan offer to pay the fine (half immediate and half in installments). They want Milan to pay all fine immediately. Not sure though… the article wasn’t clear/detailed enough.

    2. Okay let me summarize for you, so basically…

      LOL

  2. So it’s his fault that he leaves the training session and he wants us to help him now? For what, he wants a Vlahovic salary, score 20 goals first and 3 fantastic games in a row. It’s his fault and now he has this as a excuse to not renew, please sell him in the summer

  3. So he leaves the training session and went gone and now it’s our fault? We need to help him now, he wants a Vlahovic salary, first play 3 fantastic games in a row now. Stupid guy, how dare you to ask this

    1. He left the training session because he was attacked by sporting fans. Unsurprisingly the corrupt sporting court found that’s a breach of contract.

      1. “Unsurprisingly the corrupt sporting court found that’s a breach of contract.”

Corrupt or not corrupt court would have always found it breaching the contract.

  4. He should be responsible for his mistakes, he cannot demand we pay off his debts and still pay him humongous wages. that would be insane. krunic renewed without a fuss. seems that the spirit of Raiola has entered into mendes!!

  5. the reason milan offer to pay the debts, instead just offer the 7 million is easy

its to ease of the stress of player to the debt. i support this move, if the end product will cost ac milan around the same as giving him good money.

ppl must remember that part of his income will be received by his agent. so this way both leao and milan will pay agent less, due to less number in total income.

plus, if god forbid leao actually drop to salad/messias level, we can just sell him for 30-40m due to his performance lately. so this move is actually no risk involved

but i think the max milan should go is around 4m-5m per year + loan debt payment, not more in current wage limit to discourage discontent from teammates

  6. I agree that we should not mix renewal with fines but it’s as fact that he’s playing very well and Milan must do everything reasonable to renew.

  7. Milan shouldn’t pay a cent of the fine. That’s between Lille and Leao, especially Lille who benefited the most out of the whole thing by signing Leao for free and then selling him to Milan for 30 mil a year later.
You can’t demand 7-7.5 mil a year salary and Milan to pay a fine for something you, your agent and Lille did.
    You aren’t that special buddy.
There is a kid that plays for Napoli in the same position that Napoli bought for 10 mil and he is outperforming Leao. And Napoli didn’t need to wait almost 3 years for him to start producing as Leao did.
Everyone is replaceable, especially if you have the money from his sale.

    1. True what you said….a good scouting and money can help any one. I am surprised it didn’t take that long for that Georgian kid to impose himself on seria a…..for leao well he wants a 7m pa salary if I am correct plus a fine paid by milan that’s a bit harsh on management…..

  8. Still I wonder why we hear this of Leao only. I believe he’s not the only one who terminated his contract after the attack. There’s Rui Patricia and some others so why do we hear this of Leao only? 🤔

    1. AFAIK Leao was not present on the training grounds at that time of the fan “invasion”.
Players who were there at the time lef the club and that was deemed to be justified.
Leao and Mendes saw this as an oportunity to also leave the club and terminate the contract.

  9. Let him leave for free in 2024 if he doesn’t want to renew in our terms, we should scout another potential attacking winger. Too crucial for him to leave now or next season.

  10. People are so quick to lash out at Rafa. What they may not realize is that Leao literally doesn’t have that kind of money at the moment. According to SportsBrief, his net worth is between 1 and 5 million euros, and his salary is currently 1.4 million. He does not have enough money to pay his part of the fine.

This is a negotiation, where each party wants to get the best deal for them. Yes, the fine came about because Leao terminated his contract with Lisbon, but he thought he actually had valid cause to do so, and so did many of his teammates, who also terminatee their contracts. The Court of Arbitration for Sport disagreed, which is why the fine was issued. Stop making this into an attack against Leao.
