TMW: Chelsea and Man City still eyeing Leao as release clause issue must be resolved

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan must resolve the issue of a release clause in talks with Rafael Leao over a renewal, with different ideas on the amount it should be.

According to TMW, there is still no fixed date for the arrival of Ted Dimvula in Milan. The French lawyer, who holds Rafael Leao’s power of attorney, is expected by the end of the week but at the moment everything is at a standstill.

The €7m net per season that the Rossoneri are offering – without participating in any way in resolving the dispute with Sporting CP – is enough for Leao. The extension should be four or five years but with the idea that if offers over €120m arrive, Leao can leave.

Chelsea and Manchester City remain keen on Leao, whose father has been in Milan since the weekend waiting for the meeting with Dimvula. There is optimism on both sides, but the release clause knot must be untangled.

Leao has a €150m clause in his current deal and the parties are discussing it. Milan want to keep it at that figure, while Leao’s entourage want to lower it as much as possible.

  1. 120M clause is still better than free exit :O or wahtever they can get this summer for him (which wont be 100+ thats 4 sure)

      1. i didnt say that. I said his price, this summer, a year left on his contract = not 100+million transfer fee. when have you seen a player with 1 year left on contract to go for 100+M€?

  2. Fair to accept there’ll be a clause in there for releases in various conditions – no doubt that number will be lower if Milan aren’t in the Champion’s League too.

He might be sold for it, but the bigger issue is him leaving for free in a year’s time – if he’s sold for 100m+ then fair enough, at least it can be reinvested.

  3. Milan will get no more than 100 mil of clause. When they pay to Lille percentage you got nothing from Leao sale.
Milan need better finances. But most of all – new owner. Who can handle to us better commercial revenue, who can handle new stadium without $hiter, and who can handle revenue from player sale, and who can handle players contract and transfers.
In last 5 years with Americans we only saw Milan sale, for double price than it was. Nothing more. We had luck with Pioli and his ability on pitch.
