Leao reveals preference to play as a winger despite brace vs. Spezia as he thanks Pioli

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has admitted he feels total confidence from head coach Stefano Pioli after his brace on Sunday.

Milan made it three wins from three in Serie A and three clean sheets on the spin with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Spezia at San Siro.

The Rossoneri were not in total control of the game for 90 minutes as the resilient away side managed to get into the break at 0-0, but a Leao double either side of a wonderful solo goal from Theo Hernandez ensured the three points stayed in Lombardy.

It means Milan have started their 2020-21 campaign in perfect fashion and they join Atalanta as the only other team with three wins from three ahead of the derby against Inter after the international break.

Leao was interviewed by Sky Italia at the end of the game, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“I always try to give my best in the role the coach wants, I’m very happy for the team and for me that I scored after two goals after a very intense match,” he said.

“My favoured role? I like to play as a winger, where there is room to enter one-on-one, but as a striker I am closer to the goal to score.

“I feel the confidence of the coach, of the team, I am very happy, thanks for the opportunity he has given me to play as starter.”

On Milan: “After the lockdown we played great games, we must continue like this for our targets.”

On the derby: “Step by step, it will be a very important match, it’s the derby. We are Milan, Inter have strong players but we only think about winning.”
