MN: Leao heading towards extending with Milan but signing is delayed – the reason

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are still confident about securing the renewal of Rafael Leao but the time expected to reach an agreement may be extended, a report claims.

MilanNews are reporting that the extension of Leao’s contract with Milan does not seem to be in question, but we will have to wait a little longer than initially planned before there is pen on paper, but the reasons do not directly concern the Rossoneri club nor do they personally depend on the player.

The conclusion of the trial that Sporting CP brought against Leao is awaited, and now Lille are also directly involved after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that they are liable to pay the Portuguese side a fee of €20m after he joined the Ligue 1 club following the unilateral termination of his contract.

As soon as everything is over, Leao will sign an extension with Milan until 2026, earning €4.5m net per season plus bonuses which is a big rise from the current €1.5m he ears and represents the same number as Theo Hernandez earns.

The plan of Maldini and Massara has always been to hold on to Leao because he is the present and the future of Milan, while the player’s desire to stay also shows that he wants to win with the Rossoneri.
