Watch: Rafael Leao reveals story behind lucky wristband – “I really value energy”

Rafael Leao has spoken about the lucky band that he wears during games, revealing the back story behind it involving a young AC Milan fan.

At the time when he was first spotted wearing the band around his wrist, the tale emerged that it had been made by a Milan U9s player called Samuel, who had been in the tunnel ahead of a match against Empoli and got the chance to meet his idol.

The Portuguese winger has worn it ever since and he spoke during an interview with GQ in which he was asked about something that he cannot do without.

“This is a wristband I got from a kid when I was going to warm up. I really value energy, so seeing him smile and seeing the way he gave me that wristband was really special. He said, ‘Rafa, this will bring you luck!’

“Every game I play for Milan I wear it because it brings me luck. Kids give off so much energy, it was a dream come true for him. Whether you play for Milan or in a lower league, it’s always about having fun, being yourself and being happy.”
