Leao stresses importance of Milan’s bounce-back win and comments on preferred position

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao insisted the most important thing about his performance against Torino was helping the team secure all three points.

Milan ensured that they will remain top of the Serie A table for another round at least with a 2-0 win over their visitors at San Siro.

Both goals would come in the first half for the Rossoneri as Leao moved on to six league goals for the season with a composed finish when through on goal and Franck Kessie converted the 12th penalty of the season for Milan.

It was the 25 minute mark when Milan took the lead with a fantastic bit of attacking play. Theo Hernandez was the driving force as his run down the middle allowed Brahim Diaz to put Leao through on goal, and he steadied himself with a touch before sliding the ball past the onrushing Sirigu.

Leao was interviewed by DAZN at the end of the game, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translation below.

“We lost against a quality opponent, our mentality is always to play to win. Today we gave the right answer,” he said.

On his goal: “There are games in which it goes well and others not, even today I helped the team with the goal. The most important thing was to win.”

There has been a lot of debate since his arrival as to whether Leao is better as a left winger or a centre-forward.

On his role, he added: “I like to play as a striker, as a winger I look more for assists. The important thing is to always give your best for the team. No matter the role, the important thing is to help the team.”

On the mentality: “We always have to enter to win games, we remain first in the standings.”

On Roma-Inter tomorrow: “We did our bit, we don’t look at the other teams.”
