Lecce 1-1 Milan Primavera: Play-off hopes dented by late equaliser

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan Primavera once again missed out on the chance to take a step towards the play-offs as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Lecce this afternoon.

A few days ago Ignazio Abate’s side were beaten 2-1 by Bologna which came after another 2-1 defeat against Monza, which had left them on the outside looking in with regards to the play-off race.

After 77 minutes of today’s game away against 13th-placed Lecce it looked like a big win was coming. A cross from Bartesaghi was headed towards goal by Kevin Zeroli and the Lecce goalkeeper put it in via the post. It wasn’t a pretty goal, but it felt like a big one.

However, the home side then hit back five minutes later to level the scores at 1-1 and there would be no time for Milan to get a winning goal, meaning they were rather frustratingly left having to accept a share of the spoils.

The hangover after the UEFA Youth League final defeat against Olympiacos seems to be ongoing, and now Milan are level on points with Sassuolo in fifth place but they have played a game more. They have played two more than Torino, who they are also level on points with.

    1. Milan plays with players a year or 2 younger than the other teams.
Primavera is under 19, and most Milan players are 18, 17 and 16.
Plus 3 of their best players, Cuenca, Eletu and Jimenez are injured.
The results with the Primavera are secondary. The primary goal of the Primavera is player development.
Abate not winning every game with these kids doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t do a better job than Pioli.

      1. LMAO, ok.
First off coaching the Primavera and Serie A are two very different things.
Second he got out-coached in the final of the youth UCL with his proper team. Maybe we should hire Olympiacos youth coach instead. So even at his level he’s being out coached, firstly in the domestic league and secondly, in Europe.
And you want him to train grown men with egos? Oh please. Don’t let your hate for Pioli cloud your very own judgement.

        1. Eletu, Cuenca and Jimenez didn’t play vs. Olympiacos. Those are 3 of his best players.
How was he out coached when his players were outmuscled by Olympiacos players who looked like grown man playing vs. kids?
Where is the credit for abate that 2 years in a row he takes the team deep in youth UCL?
And, finally, people were calling for Abate to get the job when Pioli should have been fired mid-season ala De Rossi. No one is calling for Abate to get the job this summer.
To your buddy that mentioned Brocchi. Did Brochi have Abate success with the Primavera before he was given the first team job or he got the job because Berlusconi liked him?
Delusional people believe that Milan next coach should win every game before he could be considered for a coaching job.

          1. Like u guys don’t read? Again, success at the Primavera level has nothing to do with coaching a senior side (which I think it as the point of the Brocchi comment..but Bob can confirm himself). If so, then bring back Pippo Inzaghi who had greater success than Abate by your own logic. Right? The name Abate only surfaces in losses and draws when ppl are upset so they hit out at Pioli.
Plus if Abate can’t deal with missing 3 players how is he going to do with this Milan team? LMAO 😂 3 missing players? 2 of which sees less game time than the ones that started vs O but I’ll leave that for your homework. Their players are grown men? We had the same exact average age of their players,.plus they had three 16 yr olds to our one LMAO 😂. Tired of debunking tbh. Missing players has nothing to do with coaching or system of gameplay. Lemme know what’s the next set of excuses and straw man arguments you usually come up with to muddy the main point.
            Failed logic as usual.
