Lecce boss D’Aversa believes his side must be at ‘120%’ against ‘great’ Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Lecce head coach Roberto D’Aversa believes that his side must be at 120% if they are to get a positive result against AC Milan in tomorrow afternoon’s game.

It has been an interesting start to the season for Lecce, who won three of their first five games to find themselves in the lofty heights of third place under their new manager, but since then they are without a victory in six games.

Losses to Juventus, Napoli and most recently Roma – who scored twice in the dying minutes to turn a 1-0 deficit to a 2-1 victory – have seen the Apulian side slide into the bottom half, while they crashed out of the Coppa Italia to Serie B side Parma on November 1 too.

Stefano Pioli did not do a pre-match press conference on the eve of the game because his team are travelling today, but D’Aversa spoke to reporters at his and the comments relayed by TMW.

Milan seemed disarmed, then they had an excellent performance against PSG. How do you approach this game?

“It could have been misleading to think about the Milan seen against Udinese. It is a club used to winning. We must have no doubts: Milan are the team seen in the Champions League,” he began.

“We are ready to perform. We face a great team coached by a great coach. We must carry the anger of having lost a result in a few minutes in Rome. The atmosphere factor counts a lot, the atmosphere during the week pushed Milan a lot, leading them to an excellent performance.

“Against Udinese there was a different atmosphere. We will have a sold-out stadium and they will find an atmosphere that will push in our favour. We must look for a 120% performance.

“We must go beyond our possibilities, then we will see what Milan does tomorrow. Before the match in Rome in a few they believed Lecce could produce a performance like that.”
