Stade Rennais made an attempt to sign AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud during the summer transfer window, according to a report.
According to L’Equipe, Stade Rennais tried to sign both Giroud and Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku during the summer mercato as they looked to sign a new striker, with PSG’s Hugo Ekitike also on their list.
The French source state that the Ligue 1 side probed the ground with Giroud’s entourage to see if he would be interested in returning to France, where he has previously played with Montpellier.
However, the 36-year-old was not even remotely interested in the prospect, knowing that he will be the starting centre-forward for Milan as they aim to mount a title challenge in Serie A and to go far in the Champions League.
Stade Rennais tried for Lukaku in the final stages of the market too but the Belgian had already given his word to Roma and Jose Mourinho, though we know how much his word usually means.
“though we know how much his word usually means”
That line is a bit pathetic, be honest. So what, he was talking to a second club when he wasn’t 100% certain of Inter being able to re-sign him? That’s no different to Milan talking to other strikers at the same time as negotiating for Taremi, it’s just good sense.
Yeah its a usual thing. Remember our word to Kamada, and keep him waiting
Agreed. Players go to who will pay them. Period. This whole loyalty BS is archaic and was relevant maybe 20 years ago. Now players just want to get paid. It’s a job for 95% if not more, of players. SA league showed us that. The man needs to work. What do ppl want him to do sit out because Inter couldn’t sign him? Lol. You play for whoever pays you. Anything else is childish.
half true.. Lukaku was already being paid by Chelsea, he had no reason to go anywhere, right?
He’s shown that he wants to play not just get paid. I respect that. Talking to other Italian teams mainly and showing how much he wants to play in Italy. I respect that too.
That is true. He did look like he wanted to play.
I don’t like lukaku nor do i respect him. He’s a mõron, but at least he has some sporting ambition unlike the ‘going to saudi’ “players”.
