GdS: Liverpool forward ticks the boxes for Milan as first contacts take place

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have an eye on who could come in and be their striker for the foreseeable future, and they have cast their sights on Divock Origi of Liverpool.

La Gazzetta dello Sport writes how Origi is not the only name and the list of targets is quite substantial, but the Liverpool forward has great technical qualities and would be available on a free transfer at the end of the season given he is on an expiring contract.

Elliott Management and the Milan leaders always look at price-value ratio when examining potential signings and having an international-level striker potentially available without a transfer fee involved has resulted in the first exploratory talks between the parties.

In the meantime the Belgian forward has been made aware of the potential Rossoneri interest and may express a preference towards an experience in Italy over joining a different Premier League side.

Origi has worked under the intense pressing system of Jurgen Klopp and has just over 500 minutes this season in playing time which pushes him towards somewhere he feels more important. Given he is 26 and is therefore substantially younger than Ibrahimovic and Giroud, he seems to tick the boxes.

  1. Why? Why is everyone is so high on this player? To me he has always been a wide player and not a goal scorer. Go to transfermarkt and look at his stats. 6 goals in 42 games in 19/20, 1 goal in 17 games in 20/21, and 5 in 14 in 21/22 is NOT what we need. Sorry.

    1. Exactly. There’s already Colombo & Lazetic with the potential of coming something. We need a guaranteed “double digits” scorer. Like Belotti.

      1. He mostly starts from the bench. But he has excellent positioning as a centre forward. It’s good to buy him on free even for 15m.
I think you have never seen him playing in Liverpool, he is excellent centre forward especially holding the ball and given his height/physical strength. Surely he will score 20goals per season’s.

        1. I absolute agree. He would core 20 goals with us for sure. He is fast and powerful. A forward line of Leao-Origi-Lang would be young and dynamic with excellent pace and power. People focus on his stats but if you follow Liverpool he is great when he has the opportunity. He would excel in Italy where the game is much slower. Lukaku, Abraham, Giroud – all strikers from the PL that are thriving in Italy’s much slower pace of play. Sign him and forget about Belotti IMO.

          1. A player with champions league experience that can fill the role on the right as well as up front?
I would prefer him over Berardi.
