Loftus-Cheek ‘proud’ of Milan as he reflects on first goal for the club

Ruben Loftus-Cheek couldn’t hide his delight after he got his first goal for AC Milan, which ended up being the one that sealed a 3-1 win over Cagliari.

Milan dominated the early stages of the game in Sardinia but it was the home side that took the lead through Zito Luvumbo against the run of play. The Rossoneri answered back well before the break, with Noah Okafor and Fikayo Tomori scoring to turn the score around.

Milan got their third of the night on the hour mark and it was an absolute peach from Loftus-Cheek. Pulisic found the midfielder in space around 25 yards out with a lateral pass, and he unloaded a wonderful clean strike that sailed into the bottom corner.

Loftus-Cheek was interviewed by DAZN after the game and he reflected on a memorable night not just personally but for the team as they showed their resolve, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

With your first goal and three points, was it a perfect night?

“I’m very happy with the win. It was a difficult match, they scored but we remained strong mentally and managed to come back. Three important points, very happy with the first goal, I hope the first of many.”

How do you feel the game went?

“Before the match we talked about the importance of breaking the deadlock, but instead they took the lead. This is why I am proud of this team, we remained united and came back.”

What was behind the great reaction?

“We want to fight for the Scudetto and these are games you have to win if you want to compete for the title. If you go under you have to demonstrate that you have the ability to turn it around and we were good at doing so.”
