Ruben Loftus-Cheek spoke about his return to the starting line-up and the role he is expecting to play during AC Milan’s Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen tonight.
Alvaro Morata will not be risked as he continues to try and fully shake off bursitis and that provides a new chance for Loftus-Cheek, whose first season in red and black was very good in terms of goals scored with six goals in Serie A and four in the Europa League but he has not been in as good form.
The win in the Champions League on 7 November 2023 at San Siro against PSG was his best performance and he will be hoping to channel that same level of performance again on a European night against a dangerous team.
Loftus-Cheek is back in the line-up after being left out of the last couple of games against Inter and Lecce. He spoke to Sky during the build-up to kick-off at the BayArena and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.
How are you feeling ahead of tonight’s game?
“It’s a very important match for the team. We didn’t start the Champions League in the best way and tonight we have the opportunity to put in a good performance and get some points on the board.”
How are you feeling?
“For my part I have to do my best, I didn’t feel at my best at the beginning of the season but it’s a long one and I hope to do well tonight.”
How has Milan’s start to the season been?
“We’ve had moments that can change the season and one of these was against Inter. It gave us enormous confidence and it’s important to continue like this.”
What role will you play in?
“I’ve changed position a bit, but tonight I’ll play in midfield, not so high up, but I’ll try to get into the area, if possible.”
