Longo claims Bennacer was ‘badly advised’ over summer departure from Milan

By Euan Burns -

Italian journalist Daniele Longo has claimed that Ismael Bennacer was badly advised about his chances of securing a move away from AC Milan this summer.

Speaking to Radio Rossonera, the Calcioemrcato.com journalist explained that Bennacer may have acted differently this summer if he had not been given certain information by his agents.

It has been clear for much of the summer that the Algerian midfielder would be very open to leaving Milan and that feeling became mutual as Milan started to pursue more midfield targets.

Longo thinks that someone close to Bennacer led him to believe that if he tried to leave Milan, there would be very interesting offers arriving but that is not how it has materialised.

We are now at a point of the window where Milan actively want to sell the player to make space for others but if a move cannot be found, the working relationship has been strained and Bennacer could have minimal involvement for at least half a season.

“In my opinion he was badly advised. I don’t know if by his agents or the intermediaries…they made him believe that he could leave with very favourable offers, but in reality the possible suitors never presented themselves in a concrete way,” Longo said.

The player that Milan would like to sign in the event of Bennacer being sold is Manu Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach.

There is also still a desire to bring Tammy Abraham in from AS Roma but his arrival is more linked to Luka Jovic being sold.

  1. He was most likely advised by some of the Milan fans who comment here and made him believe that he is a world class midfielder and teams can’t wait to sign him.
BTW similar story came out yesterday about Theo as well. Supposedly he told Milan management in May that he wants to leave this summer, believing that his cycle at Milan is over and wanted to try new experience in a different league. But just like Bennacer he was disappointed that no offers came to Milan for him all summer long.

    1. You’re free to believe that Daniele Longo is omniscient since if his statement lacks evidences and accuracy but people are just saying that Bennacer has been playing at a high level before his injury and that he should deserve a second chance. None of our current midfielders ever played at his former level.

      1. As you said, believe what you want to believe.
Facts show that Bennacer was mostly a bench player so far during his Milan career.
Facts also show that our current midfielders, without Bennacer and with him being trash, finished 2nd last season, 3 spots higher than the previous season when Bennacer was healthy and a starter.
That proves that you are right at least about something. Our current midfielders never played at Bennacer’s former level, they played higher than his former level.

        1. “finished 2nd last season, 3 spots higher than the previous season when Bennacer was healthy and a starter.”
You mean that season where Juventus finished 3rd 4pts less than us with only 2 wins from march 2024 onwards ?
“Our current midfielders never played at Bennacer’s former level, they played higher than his former level.”
And yet when you compare them in DataMB, only Reijnders is close to post-injury Bennacer. Aside from carrying, both RLC and Musah have absolute garbage stats.

          1. DataMB must be destroyed. Midfielders are measured on forward and progressive stats yet they compare midfielders who play near the box with ones who play along side the center backs…it doesn’t take a lot of effort to check out the actual stats on fbref. key passes and the inverse of defensive actions is somewhat useful but still needs context

          2. @danc27: even if you check fbref, Yunus Musah and Loftus-Cheek have bad stats in the passing and defensive department in the midfield. So I don’t understand people criticizing Bennacer but somehow having no issues with Loftus-Cheek and Musah.

        2. Bennacer was a starter alongside Tonali and they went to UCL semifinals together. Bennacer got injured in the first leg.

But we agree that people can believe what they want. There are people thinking that Earth is flat or that investment funds are in football to win trophies.

    1. I only see you being smarta*s on this blog with your cringy certainty like “we need Kone, sell Bennacer” and “this is transfer is certainly going through as I heard”. You’re crystal ball is busted kid.

You didn’t even knew about Kone since couple of weeks ago but you’re endorsing him like you discovered the dude.

  2. If they wnated to sell him they should’ve said so at the start of the summer.
No bs if an offer comes we are open to sell. But you directly tell the player, look for a new club, we don’t want you.
You can’t decide that on the last week of the mercato tho. It’s unprofessional af Imao.
    Same for jovic.

  3. Folks here endorsing Kone like he’s the second coming of Vieira and how we need him instead of Bennacer, yet no one even heard of dude a month ago🤦

  4. After suffer long injury absence , he is not the same bennacer anymore . His partnership double pivot with kessie bring ACM scudetto and make manc city interesting but too bad he suffer bad injury after that season. Now no club want to buy him,not even saudi pro league. Im afraid he will have to go at 2026 with free transfer
