Longo: Milan one of three teams willing to offer Guler decisive starting spot

By Isak Möller -

Arda Guler has ended up at the top of AC Milan’s wish list and talks are already underway with the player’s entourage. The competition is fierce, though, with two more teams willing to offer guarantees.

At the age of just 18, Guler has attracted the interest of many big European clubs after doing well with Fenerbahce, as well as scoring a screamer for Turkey earlier this week. Milan are already in talks with his entourage, who will have the final say.

According to Daniele Longo, the fact that Milan are willing to pay the release clause of €17.5m doesn’t mean much since 4-5 teams are willing to do the same. What will matter, however, is that Guler will get a starting role in the team.

The Rossoneri are ready to offer him a starting spot on the right, which they have highlighted in the talks, but Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are playing the same card. It remains to be seen what decision Guler’s family will make, in other words.

Milan are pushing and the technical guarantees might be enough, but the operation remains difficult.

    1. At this point we need numbers, I’ve only seen some clips of him in big league matches and the recent international vs Wales. My Turkish colleagues at work rave about him but maybe they are biased!

Pros: skillful, good long shot, set piece taker, seems most comforable AMC (not seen enough at RW)….Big Match temperament doesn’t hide in pressure matches against Fener’s main rivals. Young enough I believe he will count as homegrown when he turns 21.

Weaknesses: slight build, also not exactly rapid, could get bullied in Serie A (a bit like Brahim, though he’s not as small) until he fills out a bit. Plus 18 year old could naturally be inconsistent for a couple years eg Leao before he hit the gym. Non-EU slot until he qualifies as homegrown.

I think for 17mn (plus maybe 5-10mn in agents commissions) he is worth the gamble, as Kamada can also cover those positions so Guler might not be needed to deliver every game. Plus having sold Tonali we lost a set piece / corner taker.

And he should fit into RedBirds philosophy as if he lives up to even half of the hype, he’d be an asset we can sell in a few years for a big profit. Always the chance he’s another CDK but he is a slightly cheaper gamble than the Belgian.

    2. Yes, he looks good but in Turkey. A lot of players look much better there. It is a risk like every kid, but Milan needs to take this kind of risk if 40-50M players won’t be signed…

    3. 👆this..I’ve been asking around too. From what I’ve seen from his “highlights” nothing to write home about. I get that he’s a decent dribbler but some of the shots and decision making were oooof awful. Also he stays on the ball for too long..I think alot of his dribbles were lucky to have come off too. Serie A defenders will gobble him up. But tbh I need to see him in a full game to make a proper assessment.

  1. I can’t pretend to know what he is worth in Italy. Turkey and Germany have close ties and it might be an easier move. I think we have a better proposition though.

  2. I see dortmund getting an upper hand. Germany has a big Turkish population that could help him transition and Dortmund they are known to help players before their big move unlike us. (I know a lot of the people in panic here think otherwise but most players don’t see us as a steeping at least right know).

  3. If our competition for the signature of this boy is R.B. Leipzig and B. Dortmund, I’m afraid he will see Milano only on a tourist trip !

  4. Guler is basically turkish Diaz but doesn’t lose the ball as much. I have very little hope for any young player under Pioli.

    1. Pioli are the one that launching SMS at his 1st season in lazio ( SMS age 20 ) . Pioli give CdK 1450 minute play , give chance to many young squad in ACM like theo, leao, benna, saladmaker, tonali, brahim, tomori, kalulu, thiaw. Thats the reason why management not sack him . The problem are not pioli but management for now , can they get guler , convincing his family to accept move to AcM ? If pioli give chance guler in RW for 1-2 season and guler successs , his value would be 100m euro ++

  5. This is the mighty Redbird, the amazing ownership group that was supposed to bring us back to glory – relying on an 18 year old raw talent to lead us to glory instead of buying established talent to take us to the next level in UCL lol.

Güler signing would be fine IF we signed him AND another starting RW so we can give Güler time to develop and adapt to a new country, culture, language and system and not put all this pressure on this kid – you know like Pioli SHOULD have done with CDK?? So ya we should sign him AND someone else – like the kid from Villarreal- BUT with our fkn cheap ass owners we are lucky if we sign one. GROSS
