Longoni: What could be the key for Milan in their pursuit of Zirkzee

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have set their sights on Joshua Zirkzee for the post-Olivier Giroud era and an attempt is expected in the summer. According to Andrea Longoni, one thing could be decisive for the Rossoneri in their pursuit.

Despite the recent words of CEO Giorgio Furlani, who seemed to suggest that Milan won’t invest loads in one player, a top striker should arrive at Milanello this summer. Giroud has decided to leave the club and the Rossoneri have been wanting a ‘striker for the future’ for years now.

In his latest column for MilanNews, Andrea Longoni discussed the No.9 situation and stated that Zirkzee is the top target. The Bologna man has scored 11 goals this season and a certain clause could be decisive for Milan.

“Furlani, when asked about the possible arrival of a player worth €50m, holds back and maintains that a large investment doesn’t always result in a large return. True. But for Milan, the No.9 pursuit is fundamental and they cannot afford gambles or risks.

“To date, the priority is called Joshua Zirkzee. Di Vaio [Bologna director] ensures that the €40m clause is valid only for Bayern Munich, but according to some rumours, it could be exercised by all clubs. This could be, if confirmed, the key to getting to the Dutchman for Milan,” he stated.

It remains to be seen what will happen in the summer, but the Rossoneri’s interest is indeed concrete. There are some other targets as well, though, such as Viktor Gyökeres, Benjamin Sesko and Jonathan David.
