GdS: Luis Alberto facing a future away from Lazio – the background on Milan’s interest

By Oliver Fisher -

It seems as though summer 2023 could finally mark the point where Luis Alberto and Lazio go their separate ways, with AC Milan having been interested in the past.

La Gazzetta dello Sport write that Alberto is not happy at the fact he is not an absolute guaranteed starter under Maurizio Sarri at Lazio despite the fact he already has 4 goals this season including Serie A and the Europa League, but he has started just 7 of 14 games and remained on the pitch for 90 minutes on just 2 occasions.

That means rumours about his future has begun swirling, and the paper recalls how Luis Alberto was one step away from returning to Sevilla back in August, the club where he came through the youth sector.

There was a general agreement between the clubs over a loan worth €3-4m and an obligation to buy set at €17m, but then Sevilla needed to invest in a defender and a forward so the move fell apart.

In the summer of 2021 the Spanish playmaker had entered the crosshairs of the Rossoneri who wanted to replace Hakan Calhanoglu, who moved to Inter, but Claudio Lotito’s requests meant that the deal did not get the off the ground, but next summer ‘the ending could be different’.

Juventus have shown interest but now have Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in their sights, while Simone Inzaghi and Inter they now have Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for that role. At the moment the most obvious hypothesis concerns a move to a top club in Spain and possibly a delayed switch to Sevilla.
