MN: Maignan a certainty despite Milan’s struggles – his numbers so far

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the few bright spots from AC Milan’s last two games – both of which were 0-0 draws – was that the defence once again showed itself to be very resilient.

MilanNews sing the praises of Mike Maignan and rewind back to last summer when the management were given the difficult task of finding a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma, and then Maignan was trusted to fill the void.

The Frenchman showed that he is a strong personality on the pitch and he settled in very quickly as a leader in the field. Except for being off his line in the match against Salernitana which led to Federico Bonazzoli’s goal, he has barely made a critical mistake.

In yesterday’s match against Torino, the former Lille man kept his team level with an excellent save on a shot from Mergim Vojvoda that was destined for the top corner, and a seventh clean sheet in a row followed.

Maignan has played 32 games for AC Milan, keeping a clean sheet on 15 occasions. That is 2910 minutes played and 27 goals conceded, which is one every 108 minutes. Obviously the defence deserve some credit too, but while the attack struggles Maignan remains a certainty.
