Maignan shares return to Milan training on Instagram: “Same intentions”

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has marked his return to full training after an injury layoff with an Instagram post.

The French goalkeeper has been out of action since before the World Cup, a tournament he would have been in the French squad for had he been fit.

Milan expected to have him back in training much sooner in 2023 but further complications have meant that Ciprian Tatarusanu has been in goal for a sizable chunk of the season.

The Romanian has deputised better than many expected him to but the team will certainly benefit from the return of Maignan as his distribution and command of the box is much better.

It is not yet clear whether Maignan will be fit enough to start the game at home to Atalanta on Sunday evening, but it seems very likely he will be between the sticks in London for the Champions League return leg in March.

He captioned his Instagram post with: “Same intensions”.

  1. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when he returns and if it gives the defence more confidence.

That’s probably been the main issue with Tatarusanu who has not been directly responsible for many goals and has pulled off some decent saves. It just seems there’s something lacking in terms of confidence and communication.
