CM: Maldini urged Adli to remain at Milan in January and work on his development

By Euan Burns -

Paolo Maldini was one of the main reasons that Yacine Adli remained at AC Milan in the January transfer window rather than going out on loan to one of the many clubs that made an offer, a report claims.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com, the French midfielder has been something of an enigma at Milan this season.

He excited a lot of fans during pre-season and many thought he could be a breakout star for the Rossoneri following his return from Bordeaux. That is not how it has panned out as Stefano Pioli has hardly used him at all.

He could have left in January on loan to a club like Sampdoria, Cremonese or any of the French clubs that wanted him, but Maldini made it clear to him that he should stay and be patient and work on himself.

Adli is very well integrated into the group socially which is a benefit.

  1. Before listening to Maldini’s advice, Adli should have looked at Daniel Maldini case and his development, who also listened to his father Paolo and stayed for so long on the Milan bench instead of going out on loan.
He is about to be 22 and has barely played any serie A minutes be that for Milan or Spezia.

  2. How does one develop himself on the bench?
Then we hear Pioli say ‘Serie A is different, players need to to adapt’. How? Just by training with Seria A players? Or by actualy playing at a Serie A club?
Should have left for Sampdoria or Cremonese.
Then again, we have no idea what Pioli expects of him, so he might never play here.
Still can’t believe Diaz is allowed to lose 10-20 balls every game and to play badly most of the time and still start, but Adli can’t get a single chance.

  3. …and Messias gets tried in various roles until he puts in a couple of good performances. CDK always gets his 30mins give or take off the bench.

Pioli primed Adli to fail in the match he got his first start. I discussed this thought before the game. A bit maliciously i believe, just to prove his point. Just to say the catch phrase,”he’s not ready yet.”

  4. This where I have to seriously question if Maldini and Massara are signing players without Pioli’s knowledge or consent because how is it possible that he’s not giving Adli any chance to play when we invested 10m on him?

10m just wasting away on the bench. Smh

  5. “He excited a lot of fans during pre-season”. No, he excited you. He wasn’t making any special passes but he got hyped up to make it look like he was. Those were standard passes. When he was at Bordeaux, he had one of the worst pass completion rates, progressive pass reception, and progressive carries in the entire Europe among attacking mids. There are more fundamental aspects to his games that probably is worrying
