Maldini elaborates on Milan’s recruitment process and declares: “This is the beginning of an adventure”

Paolo Maldini has elaborated on the process that takes place before AC Milan’s management decide to proceed and try to sign a player.

Elliott’s recruitment strategy has been clear from the start: they want to make long-term investments in promising and talented young players, occasionally adding players of experience such as Ibrahimovic and Kjaer to balance the group. This has been seen through the arrival of players such as Theo Hernandez, Ismael Bennacer, Rafael Leao and also the faith in loanees such as Brahim Diaz, Diogo Dalot, Sandro Tonali and Fikayo Tomori.

Maldini spoke live during “AC Milan Talk” on the official Twitch channel of AC Milan, with his comments on the season transcribed by MilanNews and translated below. He discussed a number of different topics (read the full transcript here), while below he spoke on the process of recruiting a player.

“We have a very capable scouting department with Moncada at the head. Scouts and statistics match the needs of the club and the tastes of those in charge of the sports area, plus what the coach wants. There is a lot of work behind it, being infallible is impossible,” he said.

“There must be a beginning for everything, this is the beginning of an adventure that will continue and will lead us to compete at the highest level. We are very happy but we must be ambitious. The difference between player and manager is huge, as a player you have tension but then you play. As a manager you keep everything inside and it becomes difficult.”
