AS: Maldini the main influence as Milan pursue permanent deal for Real Madrid youngster

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan intend to sign Brahim Diaz on a permanent basis and it is Paolo Maldini who is leading the charge, according to a report.

Brahim Diaz initially joined Milan on a one-year dry loan from Real Madrid for the 2020-21 season, and then that was extended by a further two years. Since that was confirmed, there has been some disagreement between Spanish and Italian sources as to whether the current loan includes an option to buy and a buy-back or not.

According to what is being reported by Diario AS in Spain (via MadridXtra), it is technical director Paolo Maldini who is a fan of Brahim Diaz in particular and he is the main reason Milan want to sign him permanently.

Maldini believes that his performances have been more positive this season so far, given he has seven goal contributions in 16 Serie A appearances so far this season, and that is why the Rossoneri’s stance is clear.

    1. Oh I wouldn’t say it like that… Look at the stats in Serie A:
Diaz: 16 matches, 4 goals and 2 assists
Zaniolo: 13 matches, 1 goal, no assists.

Will Zaniolo fix the inefficient/invisible trequartista issue? Nope. Definitely not. How about the same for RW role? Nope. Definitely not.

So… Why would we want Zaniolo? He’s not any better than the current players we have are.

      1. Also… Zaniola has zero seasons where he had player over 30 Serie A matches. He can only play half of the season – if he’s lucky. In Milan he’d play 10-12 matches each year. 😀

  1. Milan must always invest. That is first rule for team competitivnes.
Buy cheap – sell worst squad players for higher price

    1. Yes. Plus he has low salary. Current Milan goal is to reach one of first four positions in serie a for next couple of season.

  2. No to Diaz staying.

I don’t care if Real offers him for free. We don’t need inconsistent players, and after 3 years, I have seen nothing to say he deserves to stay. And don’t talk about him being young either.

  3. I couldn’t be in bigger disagreement with others of zaniolo. Dybala the prime example, after he left juve a lot of people said from each fanbase who would want him? He is done. Sometimes a change of scenery reignites a player. Zaniolos potential is world class, halted by injuries and Mourinho. How do you know coming to milan won’t make him world class? All I know is I’d be much happier to see zaniolo in the starting line up over CDK messias and saelemaekers

    1. Where do people dig up the “potential” in Zaniolo? Lookin at the stats, he’s awful. He can play ~25 matches per season (max) and can contribute to less than 10 goals and even those numbers have been declining season by season. I’ve seen him play 5-10 matches and he’s never show ANYTHING in those matches. He can’t create anything and contributes to nothing. Except taking stupid cards. Yellows and reds.

I just don’t see any potential in him, sorry.

  4. On nije kvalitetna 10-tka za Milan. Malen igrač bez vizije – zabija glavu u pod i trči ko muha bez glave !!!! Nikakve koristi od njega treba ga vratiti natrag .!!!! Treba nam PULIŠIĆ pod hitno !! Nikakav Zaniolo ni Zijesh
