Maldini responds to Scudetto talk: “If we do find ourselves in a positive situation, then why not try?”

Technical director Paolo Maldini has told the AC Milan squad to dream big as they widened their lead atop the Serie A table.

Inside the final 10 minutes though, Ibrahimovic came up with the decisive contribution as his bicycle kick from close range sealed a vital three points for Milan. The result means that Milan move on to 16 points from their opening six games, four points above Atalanta in second albeit with Napoli in third having a game in hand.

Milan’s unbeaten run has now been extended to 24 games across all competitions with the latest success, and now some pundits and fans are beginning to think this is a side that can challenge for silverware this season, let alone down the line.

Maldini spoke to the microphones of DAZN a few minutes before kick-off, with his comments transcribed by MilanLive and translated below.

On whether he is a afraid of a dip after the good start, he stated:

“This is also a test of maturity, it is normal that this game has a thousand pitfalls. They are strong, complete and play at an abnormal time after taking the field on Thursday.

“We always knew our players had quality and they’d need time, but having a team structure that works well helps the less experienced ones to come through.

“I always tell the lads not to put limits on themselves and to be ambitious. I also like to keep my feet on the ground, as our objective should be to improve and hopefully qualify for the Champions League.

“If we do find ourselves in a positive situation, then why not try?”
