CM: Maldini not willing to offer Romagnoli more than €2.5m per year to renew – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

Lazio believe that they can sign Alessio Romagnoli from AC Milan on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com are reporting that Lazio president Claudio Lotito is already looking at potential free transfers to strengthen the squad available to head coach Maurizio Sarri, including goalkeeper David Ospina.

They are also serious about Romagnoli and they have verbally offered €3m net per season to the 27-year-old and his agent Mino Raiola. Currently the Milan captain earns €5.5m net but Paolo Maldini is not willing to go beyond €2.5m to extend his deal, at least for the moment.

This is why Lazio believe in their chances of signing the former Roma man, who despite his past with the capital club is actually a boyhood Lazio fan. Lazio ‘have a good chance of reaching the finish line’ and the inclusion of bonuses could make the difference.

  1. In all honesty & sincerity, romagnoli deserves more. Let Milan offer him what he is requesting for instead of letting him go for free

  2. C’mon 3m and get this done. makes no sense to let him walk for free and strengthen one of our rivals.
the cost of replacing him with a good player is going to be far greater

  3. Tomori, Kjaer and Gabbia all earn under 3m/yr and Kalulu less than 1m/yr. Each of these players has shown themselves to be on par with, or superior to Romagnoli. Pay grades are determined by skill level and contribution to the club, not nostalgia. With a fully fit squad he’d be 4th best. Why would you pay him more than Tomori who is one of the first names on the team sheet each week? Couple that with the fact that he’s been earning a gross salary on par with Zlatan for the last two seasons and 2.5m/yr going forward seems more than fair.

    1. Yeah you got it right, Milan don’t need to pay 3m for a backup. I like Romagnoli as much as anyone but he’s not irreplaceable and that money can be better spent.

  4. Roma deserve 3.5m, problem is we dont know how much Raiola asking for agent fee. i respect Roma but after Z retired i hope we dont deal any busines with Raiola ever again

  5. 3.5 mil for substitute is delusional. 2.5mil is pretty generous for me. If he really is worth that much, and if raiola smart enough (not just caring about money, that greedy pig). And if I am Raiola, I will accept 2.5 mil for only 2 years extention. If in the future Roman could steal the spotlight again, I believe Milan will raise his salary again in new contract extention. that is a win win solution for both parties. And yet he still earned more than our starting XI defenders

  6. i think the problem is not romagnoli, but maldini was tired to deal with raiola ridiculous agent’s fee so its
better to offload roma’s, sign botman who are stronger, younger than him but at lower salary.
give romagnoli and kessie salareis number to raise kalulu, tomori, leao salaries
