Marca: Man City could use Cancelo as part of swap offer for Milan star

Joao Cancelo could be allowed to leave Manchester City and he may be offered to AC Milan as part of an exchange deal, a report claims.

Marca describe the relationship between City boss Pep Guardiola and Joao Cancelo as ‘topsy-turvy’ despite that fact that the full-back is considered by most to be one of the best in the world in his position.

In fact, the duo have each admitted in the media that things have not exactly always been rosy between them, starting with Guardiola’s comments after Cancelo renewed his deal until 2027 last year.

“We had problems when he arrived, we didn’t agree on many things, partly because of my mistakes, but now I am delighted that he is completely happy and can play here for the next few seasons,” he admitted.

Cancelo also suggested he had difficulties after arriving: “I came from Juve who had a different way of playing and I didn’t adapt to the team’s style. It was more my fault. I wanted to show my quality.”

He has had two excellent seasons, with three goals plus six assists in 2020-21 and three goals plus 10 assists last term, but he was a substitute twice for Portugal at the World Cup and has only started three of City’s games after the tournament.

This has led to speculation about a possible exit, and Marca state that the 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. However, there is also the possibility that Cancelo could be used as a counterpart in a bid for Milan’s Rafael Leao.

  1. Joao Cancelo has contract until 2027 with gross salary od 15 million euros. Why would Milan management put a salary cup on every player, except on unproven hipotetical player as Cancelo ?
Leao should be sold in summer for 50 million or less, because our management gambled like Inters on Skriniar. In last year of important player contract you don’t need to expect anything, just sell for any amount and not leave for free. Zaniolo is next example of unhappy player.

    1. Leao might be in for a very rude awakening if he goes to the Prem, his work rate is as terrible as good as a player he is. He will regret it if he leaves 100%

      1. Dude needs money. If player needs money 💰 – thats excellent news, use that player to earn for the club money. Maldini and Masara thinks that every player love Italy, Milan etc, but that’s not true. So give Leao bigger salary, put release clause 80-100 million, and sell that dude. If he wants that – give him. You don’t need another Bakayoko or like in Rome Zaniolo kind of player.

  2. We give players like Leao and Kessie so much lee-way, once they go to other clubs they realise that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. If Leao goes to Chelsea they aren’t going to tolerate his laziness and his terrible body language when things aren’t going his way.

  3. Milan should sell Leao to the first best offer.
He is absent from the match for long stretches and his involvement in matches is limited to a few minutes. He had not “played” well for the last five/six matches.
