Marcus Rashford of Manchester United

GdS: Why Man Utd outcast Rashford joining Milan is ‘not impossible’

The Marcus Rashford to AC Milan rumours will not go away, and on the contrary they seem to be gathering more and more momentum.

La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luca Bianchin begins his update with the question: ‘Is there a chance that Marcus Rashford will become a Milan player?’. The situation is ‘interesting’, as per the journalist, and it is ‘not impossible’.

The starting point is clear: the relationship between Manchester United and Rashford has broken. Ruben Amorim has been and remains very critical of his attitude, and has excluded him from several games now.

He has not fined the England international, but simply left him out of the squad entirely. Rashford kindly let it be known that he would go elsewhere by stating in an interview that he is ready for a new adventure. This, evidently, has not helped to make peace.

United will try to sell Rashford but there are several problems. One is the timing: it’s January, not the summer. Another is his salary: the forward, including image rights, earns €20m gross per season, so €13m net per season. The Red Devils would have to cover his salary.

Milan are interested because the directors see Rashford as a strong player, one who in the 2022-23 Premier League season scored 17 goals. Zlatan Ibrahimovic played with him at United so knows him well too.

The operation, at full salary, cannot be done because of the high costs. If part of the salary were covered, however, Milan could have Marcus for six months at high but not impossible figures, just over €5m. Bianchin adds that it is ‘difficult, not impossible’.

  1. Why o why??? Reasons not to bring him in:
#1 enough of origi kind of players.
#2 always been a bench player and doesn’t offer much.
#3 why bring a player for 6 months
Many other reasons to go with him.

    1. #1 – Really? Rashford has scored 10+ goals in the PL four times, including 15+ goals twice. Hardly “an Origi”.

#2 – Man Utd has been a revolving door of players over the last decade, so this doesn’t mean much in that context.

#3 – BECAUSE WE NEED GOALS *NOW*. We’re getting minimal production out of Morata and Abraham. Scoring is our issue this season, not defense. Anyone taking a cursory look at the table could figure this out. We have the 5th best defense, but after Bologna, we have the worst offense in the top 8.

Rashford is too expensive to be a long term solution, but for 6 months to try get us into the CL so we can reset the striker department (again) in the summer is a no brainer.

If anyone can come up with a better name that is available right now, please suggest it. And no, I don’t think Raspadori suits us. If we’re going to play a direct style with fast counters then little Rasp isn’t going to cut it.

  2. Without 25-30M buy-option?

So we spend 5M and he might f up, or we train him like we did with Brahim Diaz and let Man Untd collect 50-60M?

    1. Or Diego Dalot. At that Rate they might Fire 🔥 Amorin 🐦 and the New 2025/2026 will fall in ❤️ with the New Rashford 🚘 Keith 🇲🇹

  3. Heres an idae. Why not sign somone who is good and knows serie a?
Raspadori is still lacking game time at napoli. And his salary is a whopping 2.5M+ 500k net…

    1. Good suggestion but the issue is Raspadori isnt the type of profile we are after. He is a good player dont get me wrong but where would you play him? There is a reason why Conte isnt using him and his lost his position to Neres who is silkier player.

  4. It seems I might be on an island here but he might be a good punt. At least he might score more than our current forwards. And besides, it’s a short term play not long term as we can’t afford those wages. In the January market you can’t be too picky.
Also he’s been offered to Juve, Atalanta and Inter. It’s not just us.

  5. Laugh at me but in all honesty if we are looking at EPL strikers, we should gamble on Darwin Nunez. He was brilliant for Benfica but the pressure of a big club got to him. I agree at Liverpool he cant score goals but some of that is due to lack of confidence. His work rate is great, he can play out wide as he is a workhorse and is able to create goals and has good link up play. He is Cavani 2.0 but rough around the edges. I know Barca offered 40m few weeks back so they also see the potential in him. I would love for us to explore getting him over Rashford. He played in Portugal so Conceicao knows him well. If he can get his confidence back he would be a great player at a good age to play for us for years..
