Mandzukic enters crucial phase – the latest on his return, terms of his contract and comments from agent

AC Milan are yet to see the best of Mario Mandzukic – or much of anything at all – and the Croatian has 10 games to earn a new deal.

Mandzukic arrived in the January market together with Fikayo Tomori and Soualiho Meite and has not yet had the chance to help his team-mates, having played just 158 minutes so far with his start to life at Milan not helped by a muscle problem.

His agent Giovanni Branchini spoke to Sky Italia and took of the situation regarding his client, confirming that his stay with the Rossoneri is conditional.

“Mandzukic’s contract is linked to some conditions. But when there are injuries that do not allow a full evaluation of the player, no one forbids the renewal even if the contractual conditions are not met,” he said (via MilanNews).

“Unfortunately due to an injury he could not help until now, I understand that from next week he will return to training in a group and it will be decided at the end of the season whether to stay or make another choice,” added Branchini.

Mandzukic has had several muscular problems in recent weeks, and his return is scheduled for the match against Parma on Saturday 10 April as per MilanNews. Pioli wants to have him at his disposal for this decisive final charge which will hopefully lead to a top four finish.

His renewal is not automatically triggered automatically in case of a top four finish, but within the contract there is an option in favour of the club.
