This evening, AC Milan have been given a huge boost in their chances of signing Jean-Philippe Mateta, with him requesting the move.
The Mateta saga has evolved quickly. As of this morning, Milan had a chance to sign the Frenchman, with Massimiliano Allegri pushing for the striker. In the hours that have followed, things have only gotten more likely.

Whilst a deal still needs to be finalised, a rich proposal is ready for Crystal Palace, but whether he will sign now or in the summer must be worked out. His agent is in Italy tonight to finalise a deal, but there have been suggestions that a summer move could also be possible.
Mateta makes Milan request
Whenever it is that the Rossoneri are ready, Mateta will be waiting, and he has informed the South London club of his position tonight, as Fabrizio Romano reports on X in the past few minutes.
“Jean Philippe Mateta has informed the Crystal Palace board about his decision to join AC Milan. He wants AC Milan now, immediately, even if the initial agreement was for June 2026. €3.5m salary net per season agreed with Milan. Palace and AC Milan, on it.”
Matteo Moretto also has tweeted similar information on his own X account.
“Jean-Philippe Mateta to Milan immediately, only the very last green light of the Palace is missing.”
It seems like only a matter of time, now.

I kinda thought Nkunku was seeing a recent uptick in form. I think it’s more Gimenez that isn’t compatible but that’s just me.
I’m not someone that rates Gimenez, but Milan played their best football this season when he was playing up top. Yes, he missed chances but he played well and was very compatible.
The forwards that aren’t compatible for the way Milan plays this season are Nkunku and Leao.

Nkunku staying could cover Rafa with mateta up top. Still like what I’ve seen between pulisic and fulkrug. This could be the Swiss Army knife we’ve need up top when teams are set in deep and passing around for an opening just frustrates
Yeah this is how I feel too. It’s shame Gimenez didn’t work out, but he just isn’t a physical center forward.

I feel more likely that it would be either Mateta/Fullkrug and either pulisic/leao/nkunku depending on who’s fit. Which i kinda like the depth for next year although this year it may or may not be too much. Depending on fitness. Nkunku and/or Gimenez going in the summer looks like

if we don’t play a 4-3-3 then we are losing Pulisic or Leao. Unless Mateta shi%% the bed a major player is going to have to go because there are not enough spots. At this point Nkunku is basically Chuku and quite frankly I prefer Chuku back
I don’t know why people are excited about him 35 million for someone who scored 6 goals in 33 games?
Just keep what we have and get Vlahovic in the summer.
Also play Nkunku next to Fulkrug he will perform better than Leao that’s for sure!

I hope it gets done. Mateta is a ball carrier. I think we need more ball carriers. The passing thing we do sometimes drives me nuts. We don’t get into positions that allow for it to be done properly, especially on attack.
This deal goes through and we most likely get Leão back on the left, where the good Lord intended he be.
